Premiere of „Old Song” by Märt-Matis Lill

On February 14 at 5 p.m. in Jõgeva Music School and February 16 at 6 p.m. in Viljandi St. John’s Church Märt-Matis Lill’s „Old Song” for female voice, percussion, fiddle and phonogram will be premiered. New piece written on ancient Chinese text will be performed by Eve Kopli (voice), Vambola Krigul (percussion) and Triin Krigul (fiddle).

The aim of the concert titled as „Calling silently” is to approach silently to these objects that have been worshipped and called for throughout the ages. The programme includes music by Tomas Svoboda (1939), Frederic Rzewski (1938), Arvo Pärt (1935), Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) and monophonic conductus from the Florence Manuscript. Concert is organized by State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.

Märt-Matis Lill (b. 1975) has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as a student of Prof. Eino Tamberg and Prof. Lepo Sumera. Since 1998, he has studied at the Sibelius Academy master’s degree program with Veli-Matti Puumala. He is the artistic director of Pärnu Days of Contemporary Music and chairman of Estonian Arnold Schönberg Society. Lill has been awarded the Composer Prize of the Estonian Music Days Festival (2005, 2007) and the Heino Eller Composition Prize. In 2007, “My weeping voice is the wind of autumn” was selected among the best ten compositions at the International Composers' Rostrum in Paris. Besides composing, Lill is engaged in Japanology, Sinology and philosophy, Oriental culture has an influence also on his music.
