Estonian music was conducted by Erki Pehk in Kiev

On February 3, concert of Estonian music organised by Ukrainian musicians and Embassy of Estonia took place at Organ and Chamber Music Hall in Kiev. Concert dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Estonian Republic was performed by the artists of the State Chamber Orchestra Kievska Kamerata and conductor of the Estonian National Opera Erki Pehk. The program was framed by Arvo Pärt’s „Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten“ and „Fratres“, also were performed Ester Mägi’s „Vesper“, Jaan Rääts’s Concerto for Chamber Orchestra, Lepo Sumera’s Music for Chamber Orchestra, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s „Insula deserta“, and Tõnu Kõrvits’s „Longer Than a Thousand Summers“ with successful flute soloist Monika Mattiesen and „A Homeland Tune“ by Heino Eller as the encore.

This eventful evening demonstrated Ukrainian high interest in Estonia, our culture, and especially music. Erki Pehk gave many interviews for radio, TV and newspapers, met renowned Ukrainian musicians, among them composer Evgeny Stankovich and chief conductor of Ukrainian National Symphony Orchestra Volodymyr Syrenko and joined future plans for collaboration with Kievska Kamerata.
