Ensemble U: in Bucharest and Helsinki

In December 2008, ensemble U: (Tarmo Johannes - flute, Taavi Kerikmäe - piano, Vambola Krigul - percussion, Levi-Danel Mägila - cello, Helena Tuuling - clarinet and Mari Targo - violin) had miniature tour in Europe. Two different programs were performed in Finland and Romania.

On December 12, ensemble U: gave a concert in The George Enescu Hall of the National University of Music Bucharest. The concert was held in relation to New Music Festival Meridian. The ensemble performed music from Estonian composers like Tanja Kozlova, Märt-Matis Lill, Helena Tulve and Andres Lõo, mostly pieces which have been written for ensemble U:. In addition, the ensemble performed music by Benjamin Broening (USA) and two contemporary Romanian composers (Sorin Lerescu Austral, a solopiece for bass clarinet and Petru Stoianov On a Sun Dial, a solo ballad for cello). The festival was organized by Music Organization ISCM Bucharest section.

On December 20, ensemble U: performed in Kimmo Kuitunens author concert in The Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Collaboration with Kuitunen started a few years ago in Viitasaari Festival in Finland where ensemble U: premiered his Trio for clarinet, cello and piano. Trio and a new piece TripleDuos, dedicated to ensemble U:, were performed this time. The concert was held in support of Finland’s Contemporary music fond LUSES.
