On February 26 and March 1, soprano Kädy Plaas and pianist Siim Selis will perform at the concert The Beginning of Happiness romantic solo songs on Estonian love and nature lyrics. In addition to music by Mart Saar, Artur Kapp, Miina Härma, Mihkel Lüdig, Ester Mägi, Eduard Tubin and Eduard Oja, the program also includes the premiere of „Locus amoenus” (2009, text by Tberianus) by René Eespere.

Concerts will take place on February 26 at 7 pm at Türi Cultural House and March 1 at 4 pm at Estonian National Opera White Hall.

Kädy Plaas graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre singing class of Nadia Kurem in 2007. Currently she is obtaining her Master’s degree at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since 2004, she has been the soloist of the project theatre Nargen Opera. Her wide repertoire consists of many opera roles, including productions at the Hamburg State Opera in Germany, and soprano solo parts in numerous vocal-symphonic works. As a soloist, Kädy Plaas has performed with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Tallinn Baroque Orchestra and collaborated with conductors such as Tõnu Kaljuste, Eri Klas, Toomas Siitan, Risto Joost, Juha Kangas etc.

Siim Selis graduated as a pianist from Estonian Academy of Music in 1996 with Valdur Roots. In 1999 he obtained his Master’s degree as an accompanist with Helin Kapten and Vilma Mallen. He has also studied conducting in the class of Jüri Rent and Ilmar Tõnisson. Selis has collaborated with many Estonian singers and performed in Finland, Canada and New-Zealand. Since 1992, Selis has been the conductor and accompanist at the Academic Male Choir of Tallinn University of Technology. He also works as an accompanist at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
