Music for Lent performed by Estonian National Male Choir

On March 23, 28 and 29, Estonian National Male Choir conducted by Risto Joost will give three concerts with music for Lent, also organist Ene Salumäe will participate. Concerts entitled „De profundis“ consist of works by Arvo Pärt („De profundis“ (1980), „And One of the Pharisees…“ (1992), Trivium for organ (1976), „Most Holy Mother of God“ (2003), „Da pacem Domine“) and Thomas Tallis („The Lamentations of Jeremiah“, „If ye Love Me“, „A New Commandment“).

Concerts will take place on March 24 at 7 pm at Paide Church, March 28 at 6 pm at Haapsalu Dome Church and March 29 at 6 pm at St. John’s Church, Tallinn.

Risto Joost has studied both choral and orchestral conducting and singing in Estonian Academy of Music. In 2008 Joost graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm majoring in orchestral conducting. He has participated in numerous master classes. Joost has conducted several orchestras and choirs in Estonia and abroad. Since 2006 Joost works as the principal conductor of the Tallinn Music High School Symphony Orchestra, in June 2007 he made his debut in the Estonian National Opera conducting Erkki-Sven Tüür's opera Wallenberg. He has conducted more than 50 premieres.

As a singer (countertenor), Joost has worked with different orchestras, ensembles and musicians, performed both in Estonia and abroad and participated in several festivals. Since 2003, Joost has been a member of the vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices (artistic director Paul Hillier). In 2007 Joost performed the main role in Antonio Vivaldi’s opera Il Giustino with baroque ensemble Sansara in Latvia, his latest performance was in Sunleif Rasmussen’s opera The Madman’s Garden in Tallinn 2008.
