Premiere of Jüri Reinvere's "Requiem" in Helsinki

The Premiere of Jüri Reinvere's „Requiem” will take place today, on March 23rd at 7.30 p.m, in Helsinki, at the archive-cinema "Orion" (Eerikinkatu 15). „Requiem” (2009) is composed for solo flute, electronics, four voices and voice-over; text by the composer.

The work will performed by Richard Craig (flutes), Catherine Jarvis (reader), four singers from the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir: Aarne Talvik, Toomas Tohert, Rainer Vilu and Mikk Üleoja (cond).

Reinvere's "Requiem", airy and evocative music-and-text composition, also weighs against the contemporary virtuoso Flute repertoire and with its quaint new form the Requiem-genre itself.
The performance will be complemented by a film specially mastered for the occasion by Australian film-director Catherine Jarvis. The film is made from extraordinary and rare Estonian documentary clips from 1911-1945, many never before seen.

Jüri Reinvere

Jüri Reinvere was born 1971 in Estonia, he lived for a short time in Poland and then for fourteen years in Finland, where he earned his Masters degree from the Sibelius-Academy. Having spent long periods of time in Sweden also played a crucial role in his development. In 2005, Reinvere moved to Berlin.
Jüri Reinvere is a new-era Estonian-cosmopolitan composer, ever-changing and borders-widening, being successfully last years merging his music with his own English-written poetry.

Jüri Reinvere has been nominated twice in the Rostrum of Composers in Paris, winning in 2000 in the under 30 category for ”Northwest Bow” and being nominated in 2006 for ”Livonian Lament”.

The next performance of Jüri Reinvere's "Requiem" will take place at the festival ESTO 2009 in Munster, Germany, where flute soloist will be Helen Bledsoe.
