Arvo Volmer conducts Mahler’s Symphonies

On March 20 and 21, the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Estonian National Opera, Arvo Volmer conducted Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No 1 in D major, titled Titan in the opening concert of the Master Series at the Adelaide Festival Theatre. In addition he conducted Nigel Westlake’s Shimmering Blue and Niccolò Paganini’s Violin Concerto No 1. Volmer’s second concert with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in the same festival is on April 1. Then they perform Nikos Skalkottas’s Greek Dance, Alfred Schnittke’s Moz-Art à la Haydn, Franz Joseph Haydn’s Violin Concerto and Symphony No 83 The Hen.

With conducting Mahler’s symphonies Arvo Volmer continues the plan to perform in seven years (2006-2012) all his symphonies with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Next concert where Arvo Volmer conducts Mahler is on April 11 at 7 pm takes place in Estonia Concert Hall, Tallinn. Mahler’s Symphony No 2 in C minor, known as the Resurrection, will be performed by Heli Veskus (soprano), Monika-Evelin Liiv (mezzo-soprano) and the Estonian National Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
