Arvo Pärt’s „Passio“ is performed during the Passion Week

During the Passion Week, one of Arvo Pärt’s most popular choral work Passio (Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi secundum Joannem) is performed at three concerts by chamber choir Voces Musicales and instrumental ensemble (Olga Voronova – violin, Marius Järvi – cello, Riivo Kallasmaa – oboe, Rene Sepalaan – bassoon, Ene Salumäe – organ).

Jesus is sung by baritone Uku Joller and Pilate by tenor Ka Bo Chan, soloists of the Evangelist ensemble are Jaanika Kuusik (soprano), Eve-Lii Valdmets (alto), Indrek Jurtshenko (tenor) and Ott Kask (baritone).

Concerts are held on April 9 at 6 pm in Viljandi St. John’s Church, April 10 at 7 pm in Tallinn St. John’s Church and April 11 at 6 pm in Jõhvi St. Michael’s Church.

Pärt’s Passio was written in 1982. Approximately 75 minutes lasting work is setting of the Passion of Christ as told in the Gospel of John (in Latin).
