Arvo Pärt's fourth symphony today in Helsinki

Today, at 7.05 pm, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under conducting of Cem Mansur will perform Arvo Pärt's Fourth Symphony in Finlandia-talo, Helsinki. The performance is also the European premiere of the work.
In the second half of the concert, Piano Concerto No. 1 by Dmitri shostakovich with pianist Alexander Toradze and Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar will be played. In cooperation with the Finnish Yleisradio the concert will also broadcasted by Klassikaraadio.

The concert transmission includes extracts from Arvo Pärt's recent interview with Finnish Radio editor Heikki Katila. Arvo Pärt speaks about his Fourth Symphony and the dedication to Mikhail Hodorkovski, as well as his personal sense of music.
Arvo Pärt's Fourth Symphony’s world premiere took place in January this year by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen as conductor. Almost 40-minutes long Fourth Symphony bears title "Los Angeles". Arvo Pärt's previous symphony (No. 3) and the new work is separated by nearly 40 years.
