Mihkel Kütson conducted Lepo Sumera’s symphony in Germany

On April 24 at 7 pm, the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra with Mihkel Kütson conducting performed Symphony No. 2 by Lepo Sumera in Hamburg. The program also included music by Alexander Borodin, Siegfried Matthus and Otto Nicolai.

Sumera’s Second Symphony premiered in Tallinn on April 2 in 1985. The piece was performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under conductor Peeter Lilje. Lepo Sumera received the annual music prize (1985) for that piece.

Having won a reputable Deutsches Dirigentenpreis, Mihkel Kütson has worked in a number of significant German musical theatres. Since the season 2007/2008, he has been the chief conductor of Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheater und Sinfonieorchester. From 1999 to 2004, Mihkel Kütson was a musical director and chief conductor of Vanemuine; on August 1 in 2008, he restarted at that position.
