Ellerhein Girls’ Choir concert in Tallinn St. Nicholas’ Church

On April 29 at 7 pm, Ellerhein Girls’ Choir is performing in Tallinn St. Nicholas’ Church. The program consists of György Orbán’s Mass no. 9 „Sanctus-Benedictus“, Marc Antoine Charpentier’s „Quam pulchra es“, Arvo Pärt’s „Peace upon you, Jerusalem“, Veljo Tomis’ Spring Sketches („Spring Wind“, „Buds Leafing Out“, „Evening Sky“, „ Under the Bird-cherry Tree“, „Yellow Flame“, „ In Late Spring“) and Summer Motifs („Thunderstorm“, „Summer Night“), Heikki Sarmanto’s „Hanget Soi”, Harri Wessmann’s „Vesi väsyy lumen alle”, Gustav Ernesaks’s „Icicle“, Ko Matsushita’s two Japanese game songs „Kishu no Tonosan” and „Chi-Chi-Chittanko no”, Olav Ehala’s „Here is a Brook“, Raimond Valgre’s „Bluebird“and Harold Arlen’s „Rainbow“. The conductor of the choir is Tiia-Ester Loitme and the piano accompanist is Katrin Kuldjärv.

Ellerhein Girls’ Choir was founded in 1951 by Prof. Heino Kaljuste, whose lifework since 1989 is continued by Tiia-Ester Loitme. Choir’s repertoire varies from Estonian choral music to classical and contemporary music by outstanding composers of the world. In addition to frequent concerts in Estonia, Ellerhein has successfully performed at concert tours all over the world and won prizes at many reputable international choral contests. Ellerhein often takes part in performances of vocal symphonic works. For a long time, the choir has been tied to Japan, where record companies have released five CD-s with Estonian music sung by Ellerhein. In 2004, Ellerhein won the Grammy together with Estonian National Male Choir and Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (conductor Paavo Järvi) for the recording of Jean Sibelius’ „Cantatas“ (Virgin Classics, 2003).
