New work for male choir by Andrus Kallastu will be premiered today

On Wednesday, May 20 at 7 pm, within the Estonian National Male Choir’s concert Springtime Serenades in the Tallinn Blackheads’ Guildhall, a new work entitled Wasser Machet stumm by Andrus Kallastu will be premiered.
The concert program also includes choir works by Toivo Kuula, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Nils-Erik Fougstedt, Maarten Van Ingelgem and songs on love and drink by Felix Mendelssohn. The concert will be broadcasted by Klassikaraadio.

Andrus Kallastu is known as an active concert organizer, who often appears at concerts as the singer and conductor, he has been the artistic director and producer of various projects, the originator and leader of several festivals. In his leadership, the festival of the Pärnu New Music Days has been held more than ten years. Andrus Kallastu is also the manager of Pärnu Opera and he leads the conceptual music theatre ensemble Repoo Ensemble as well as the Estonian Arnold Schönberg Society.

Andrus Kallastu has studied choral conducting (Prof. Olev Oja) and composition (Prof. Eino Tamberg) at the Tallinn State Conservatoire in 1985–1990. Between 1991-1999 he studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, complementing his knowledge in composition (profs. Paavo Heininen, Olli Kortekangas, Erkki Jokinen), singing and musicology. In 1999, he acquired a Master's degree in conducting.
The most important part of Andrus Kallastu’s creations consists of vocal and choral works, also electronic and multimedial compositions.

Timo Nuoranne is an internationally known Finnish conductor. He has been the guest conductor of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, the Belgian Radio Choir and the Danish Radio Choir. In 1999, the Finnish Choir Conductors’ Association granted him with an honorary title of The Conductor of the Year. Timo Nuoranne is currently working as a choral conducting teacher at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, department of Church Music.
