Mirjam Tally is the new Composer in Residence at Swedish Radio P2

On May 29, Swedish Radio P2 announced the names of their new Composer in Residence and Artist in Residence for 2009-2011. The new composer in residence is Mirjam Tally, who lives on the Swedish island of Gotland since 2006.

Mirjam Tally works at the Gotland School of Music Composition and at Visby International Centre for Composers. In 2008 she was awarded the prestigious “small” Christ Johnson prize by the Swedish Royal Music Society for her orchestral piece ”Turbulence” (2006).
Mirjam Tally graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music in 2000 as a student of Lepo Sumera. During the studies she also received guidance in electronic music from Rauno Remme. In 2003 she obtained the master degree at the Estonian Academy of Music. 1998–2004 Tally was active as a freelance program host in the Estonian classical music channel Klassikaraadio; 2003-2006 she worked as an editor of the Estonian music magazine Muusika. Tally has published articles on music also in other editions.

The new artist in residence is Swedish pianist Peter Friis Johansson, who has already received a number of important awards, such as the Young Swedish Soloist of the Year-award in 2007. Peter has performed with a number of Swedish orchestras and he will represent Sweden in the European Piano Competition 2009, which will take place in Prague at the end of June. The Composer in Residence and Artist in Residence are appointed for a two-year period. Swedish Radio commissions a certain amount of works from the composer during this period, and the works will be performed in concerts organized by Swedish Radio. The artist will perform as soloist with the Swedish Radio Symphony orchestra and play with different ensembles, as well as perform works by the Composer in Residence. The concerts will be offered to the EBU.
