VIII Estonian Young Composers’ Festival

From June 4 to 7, Estonian Young Composers’ Festival takes place for eighth time in Tartu. Four festival concerts in Tartu St. John’s Church present Estonian new chamber and orchestral music, including eight premieres.

Opening concert of the festival will take place on June 4 at 7 pm, where Pärnu City Orchestra and soloist Iris Oja (mezzo soprano), Monika Mattiesen (flute) and Riivo Kallasmaa (oboe) under the guidence of Risto Joost will perform works by Galina Grigorjeva, Tatjana Kozlova, Tõnu Kõrvits, Mart Siimer, Tõnis Kaumann and Kristjan Kõrver.

On June 5 at 7 pm, Martti Raide (piano), ensembles S. A. P. (Anto Õnnis - percussion, Jaak Lutsoja - accordion, Ursula Chillaud - saxophone), U: and Resonabilis will perfom. The program consists of works by Helena Tulve, Mari Vihmand, Tatjana Kozlova, Mart-Matis Lill, Mirjam Tally, Jüri Reinvere, Tõnu Kõrvits and Ülo Krigul.

On June 6 at 12 pm, the workshop of Helena Tulve’s music will be arranged. At 7 pm, ensemble Una Corda will perform music by Liis Jürgens, Helena Tulve, Mirjam Tally, Elo Masing, René Eespere, Raimo Kangro, Peeter Süda and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Final concert of the festival will take place on June 7 at 7 pm, where works by Ester Mägi, Tõnu Kõrvits, Tatjana Kozlova, Claude Vivier, Tristan Murail and Olivier Messiaen will be performed by Tartu New Music Ensemble (Kadri-Ann Sumera - piano, Oksana Sinkova - flute, Tõnu Kalm - clarinet, Kadri Sepalaan - violin, Heiki Palm - cello).

Artistic director of the festival is Monika Mattiesen, festival is organised by NPO Tartu St. John’s Church Culture Project.
