Village Songs by Veljo Tormis will be performed today and Saturday

Song cycle Village Songs by Veljo Tormis will be presented as a staged concert on Wednesday, 3 June at 8 pm in the Glasshall at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds and on Saturday, June 6 at 8 pm in Kihnu Folk House.

The concert-stageplay will be performed by youth choir Vox Populi and sudents of the Drama School of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre: Sandra Üksküla, Marta Laan, Piret Krumm, Jekaterina Nikolajeva, Mikk Jürjens, Lauri Kaldoja, Kristjan Üksküla and Kaspar Velberg. The concert is staged by Anne Türnpu ja Eva Klemets.
Of six 19th century Estonian folk songs consisting cycle was originally created for play Songs Throughout the Village or In the Parisian City of London [Külavahelaulud ehk Pariisi linnas Londonis] that was staged in 1972 at the Tartu Vanemuine Theatre by kaarel Ird. Two of village songs come from Kihnu island, the other songs are collected from different areas of Estonia – Karula, Pöide, Põlva and Kadrina. In addition to the works of Veljo Tormis, songs by Gustav Ernesaks will be performed as well in the concert, the conductor is Janne Fridolin.
