Mikk Murdvee will conduct in Estonia and Finland

On January 14, conductor Mikk Murdvee will conduct the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra at The House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads in Tallinn at 7 pm. The program of the concert entitled Virtuosos consists of music by composers from Nordic countries and Estonia. Folk Tunes from South Northland by Jorma Panula, Holberg Suite by Edvard Grieg, world premiere of Metamorphoses by Paavo Korpijaakko (accordion soloist Mika Väyrynen), also Mihkel Kerem’s new version of Lamentation for viola and chamber orchestra (originally composed for cello and string orchestra) will receive its premiere, viola part will be performed by Murdvee himself.

At the end of January, Murdvee will appear as the violin soloist and conductor with Sinfonietta Soi in Espoo, Finland. Concert entitled Restless Night will take place at Sello Hall on January 31 where Oboe Concerto by Bohuslav Martinů (soloist Anna Mantere), Violin Concerto No. 8 by Louis Spohr and Restless Night by Mihkel Kerem will be performed.

Mikk Murdvee studied violin at Tallinn Music High School and Estonian Academy of Music. He continued his violin and conducting studies at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He has participated in several master classes and has gained recognition at competitions, both national and international.

Murdvee has worked with many outstanding orchestras in Estonia and Finland. He has also conducted in Estonian National Opera, opera theatres in Pori and Kerava, and worked as an assistant conductor in Tampere Opera. Since 2007, Murdvee holds the post of the principal conductor of Helsinki University Orchestra Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat. Besides conducting, Murdvee is also active as a violinist (soloist, chamber musician, concert master).
