Andres Uibo and Aare Tammesalu will perform in Vancouver

On January 23 at 7.30 pm, Andres Uibo and Aare Tammesalu will perform in Vancouver Shaughnessy Heights United Church Granville. The program of the concert consists of Andres Uibo’s Bach im Spiegel and Apocalypsis Symphony, Arvo Pärt Trivium and Spiegel im Spiegel, Artur Kapp Prelude, and Kaljo Raid Largo. In addition, music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy will be performed.
Uibo and Tammesalu will also perform on January 24 at 11 am in Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Peter. This time the concert consists of music by Estonian composers – Artur Kapp Andante religioso and Prelude, Andres Uibo Bach im Spiegel, Kaljo Raid Largo, Ester Mägi Psalm, Arvo Pärt Spiegel im Spiegel, and Juhan Jürme Andante sostenuto.

 

Andres Uibo is the most outstanding Estonian organist who has given solo concerts in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland, Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Japan and elswhere. He has made 33 recordings as a soloist and with different ensembles. Uibo is the initiator and director of Tallinn Organ Festival since 1987. Currently he is working as the organist of Tallinn St. Nicholas’ Church and teacher in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He has been ascribed the annual prizes of Cultural Endowment of Estonia (1995, 1999). In 2001 he was awarded the Medal of the White Star and in 2006 the prize of Estonian Music Council.

Cellist Aare Tammesalu operates mainly as an orchestra and chamber musician, performing classical and contemporary music. Besides, he is an active concert producer and a teacher. He has participated in many orchestras in Estonia and Finland. He is the founding member of the Tobias String Quartet and has also played in different other ensembles, including Reval Ensemble and Resonabilis. He has given recitals in Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Finland and U.S. As a chamber musician he has performed in many European countries and taken part in many Estonian music festivals. He has arranged several music festivals, including Mozart 250, International Music Festival Eduard Tubin and His Time, opeNBaroque, Music of Seven Towns etc. Besides, he has also organized music competitions: Bach Competition for young pianists in Tallinn in 2000 and Pärnu Violin Competition for young violinists in 2008.
