Veljo Tormis’s choral music will be performed in England

On February 24, the University of York will celebrate the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia with concert of Veljo Tormis’s choral music. The concert entiteld Forgotten Peoples will take place at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall in the presence of composer Veljo Tormis.

Forgotten Peoples will feature Ingrian Evenings and Karelian Destiny of the great cycle Forgotten Peoples and selection of the Estonian Lyric Folk Songs performed by the Department of Music’s vocal ensemble The 24, conducted by John Potter. Songs will be sung in Estonian, Finnish and Karelian.

 

As well as attending the concert, to which Tormis will give a spoken introduction (translation by Estonian singer and choral conductor Eerik Jõks), he will have two sessions with postgraduate students at which he will show films of live performances of his work.
