David Oistrakh Festival

From January 4 to 8, David Oistrakh Festival will take place in Tallinn and Pärnu. This year’s festival offers four concerts.

Festival Gala Concert will be held on January 4 at 7 pm at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn. Swedish opera singers Caroline Gentele, Gabriella Lambert-Olsson and Katarina Böhm will perform music by Giacomo Puccini, Georg Friedrich Händel, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Jean Sibelius, Charles Gounod, Giulio Caccini and others. Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Bjarte Engeset (Norway).

On January 5 at 7 pm at Pärnu Kuninga Street School and January 6 at 7 pm at Tallinn Swedish St. Michael’s Church soprano Sophie Witte (Germany), pianist Antti Siirala (Finland), flutist Massimo Mercelli (Italy), cellists Allar Kaasik and Holger Kaasik, percussionist Karl Johann Lattikas and Čiurlionis String Quartet (Lithuania) will perform loved Christmas songs.

The closing concert of the festival will take place on January 8 at 7 pm at Tallinn St. Nicholas’s Church. Latvian State Choir Latvija conducted by Māris Sirmais will sing choral music by Arvo Pärt, Krzysztof Penderecki, Galina Grigorjeva, Tõnu Kõrvits, Pēteris Vasks, Ēriks Ešenvalds and others.

David Oistrakh Festival is organised in cooperation with the Culture Capital Tallinn 2011, the artistic director of the festival is Allar Kaasik.
