Mirjam Tally composer recital

On January 12 at 7 pm, Mirjam Tally composer recital will take place in Pirita Monastery. Two pieces will be premiered: Yellow for voice, flute and alto flute, kannel and cello (text Indrek Hirv) and version of piano piece Steps (2009) titled as 3 steps for flute, kannel, accordion and cello. Additionally Structures (1996) for solo kannel, Teel olla on veel (2007, text Doris Kareva) for soprano, accordion and cello, and Flow (2004/2006) for flute, kannel and cello will be presented. Tally’s music will be performed by ensemble Resonabilis (Iris Oja - vocal, Tarmo Johannes - flute, Kristi Mühling - kannel, Aare Tammesalu - cello) and accordionist Sirje Mõttus, poetry will be read by Indrek Hirv. Entrance is free.

Mirjam Tally composer recital is part of series A Composer in Residende for Every District in Tallinn that is Estonian Composer’s Union’s contribution to the program of European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011.

Mirjam Tally (1976) has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as a student of Lepo Sumera in 2000 and obtained the master degree in 2003. Her earlier works are mainly for chamber ensembles and electronics. Tally was one of the pioneers to use Estonian folk instrument kannel in art music – peculiarity that widened to other exotic instruments as well. In recent years, importance of orchestral music has increased in her oeuvre. Turbulence (2006) has gained several international recognitions. Former habitant of Pirita district lives now on the island of Gotland and is also a member of the Society of Swedish Composers.
