XXII Baroque Music Festival

From January 28 to February 5, Baroque Music Festival will take place for the 22nd time. This year’s festival offers 10 concerts in Tallinn, Jõhvi and Tartu, in addition to Estonian performers, the festival also features acknowledged guests from Russia, Latvia, Israel, Germany, France and Spain.

The opening concert Holy City, Jerusalem of the festival will be held on January 28 at 7 pm at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn, where Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Latvian State Choir Latvija and violinist Pavel Vernikov (Israel) will perform under the guidance of Andres Mustonen. Andres Uibo’s new piece The New Jerusalem for mixed choir and symphony orchestra will receive its world premiere.

On January 29 at 5 pm at Jõhvi Concert House and January 30 at 6 pm at Tallinn Meder Hall, bass and lute player Joel Frederiksen (Germany) will perform Renaissance and early Baroque music from England, France and Italy.

Antonio Vivaldi’s trio sonatas performed by Svjatoslav Moroz (violin, Russia), Andres Mustonen (violin), Natalia Gutman (cello, Russia) and Ivo Sillamaa (harpsichord) can be heard on January 29 at 6 pm at the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads in Tallinn. Natalia Gutman’s solo recital will take place on January 30 at 4 pm at Tallinn Meder Hall where she will perform Three partitas by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Vocal Ensemble Die Singphoniker (Germany) will give two concerts on February 1 at 7 pm at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn and February 2 at 7 pm at Vanemuine Concert Hall in Tartu.

On February 3 at 7 pm, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Hortus Musicus conducted by Andres Mustonen will perform motets by Michael Praetorius at Tallinn St. John’s Church.

Ensemble La Fenice and soprano Claire Lefilliâtre (France) will offer to audience vespers by Claudio Monteverdi and 17th century Italian composers on February 4 at the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads in Tallinn at 7 pm.

The final concert Bach and Sons of the festival will be held on February 5 at 7 pm at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn where Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Patrick Demenga (cello, Switzerland), Paolo Pollastri (oboe, Italy) and Claudi Arimany (flute, Spain) under the guidance of Andres Mustonen will perform.

The artistic director of the festival is violinist and conductor Andres Mustonen, festival is organised by the State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.
