Kallastu Festival to begin

From April 10–17, Kallastu Festival will take place in Pärnu and Tallinn. Festival offers two programmes: Spring Aria of arias by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini performed by soprano Kai Kallastu and Schönberg, Schönberg of music by The Second Viennese School performed by Repoo Ensemble, including Estonian premieres of Arnold Schönberg’s and Anton Webern’s works.

Festival was initiated by composer Andrus Kallastu for celebrating his 40th birthday in 2007. Since then, the programmes have interweaved Kallastu’s music with opera and modernism classics, cinema, dance and electronic music. In addition to composer’s role, Kallastu has been performed at the festival also as a pianist and conducotr of Repoo Ensemble.

Festival’s concert Spring Aria will takel place on April 10 at 2 pm in Pärnu Town Hall and April 11 at 7 pm in Tallinn House of Brotherhood of Black Heads. Programme Schönberg, Schönberg will be presented on April 16 at 4 pm in Tallinn Writers’ House and April 17 at 2 in Pärnu Town Hall.
