Cyberstudio 10

 

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, multimedia ensemble Cyberstudio will give on March 1 and 2 two concerts in Tallinn – two new works will be premiered.

On March 1, Monika Mattiesen’s multimedia opera The Pleasure of Creating will receive its premiere performance at Kumu Art Museum (Tallinn) at 7 pm. The opera is based on the epic Metre and Demeter and essay The Pleasure of Creating and Letter by Hasso Krull. The text which connects the different cosmogonies and gives the meaning to them, is combined with music, dance, drama, light and video. Cyberstudio features soloists mezzo soprano Iris Oja and actor Mait Malmsten and dancers from Tallinn University Coreography Department. The Pleasure of Creating is directed and coreographed by Mari Mägi, designer is Reet Aus, live-electronics by Margo Kõlar and Tammo Sumera, technical solutions by Vello Vaher.

In addition to Mattiesen’s opera performance, the program of the concert on March 2 also includes the premiere of Autumn Whispers (2009) by Mirjam Tally and Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Whistles and Whispers from Uluru (2007). Works will be performed by Cyberstudio and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra conducted by Risto Joost. The second birthday concert will also take place at Kumu Art Museum at 7 pm.

Cyberstudio (artistic director flutist Monika Mattiesen) is multidisciplinary ensemble that is focused on performing music by contemporary Estonian and foreign authors. Ensemble’s main idea is synthesis of multimedia, acoustic and electro-acoustic music with other fields of arts, thus the light, video, paintings, dance, film, literature and others are roped in Cyberstudio’s projects.

From the works of foreign authors, Cyberstudio has performed music by many leading new music composers like John Cage, Pierre Jodlowski, Kaija Saariaho, Philippe Manoury, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Brian Eno and many others. Cyberstudio have given first performances of works by Estonian composers like Märt-Matis Lill, Margo Kõlar, Toivo Tulev, Timo Steiner, Helena Tulve, Mart Siimer, Jüri Reinvere, Tõnis Kaumann, Monika Mattiesen. Cyberstudio has also collaborated with composers Erkki-Sven Tüür, Tõnu Kõrvits and Mirjam Tally. Besides the intensive concert activity in Estonia, Cyberstudio has performed in Finland, Poland, France, Greece and USA.
