Tiia Järg is the laureate of Heino Eller Music Prize 2010

On March 7, the 13th Heino Eller Music Prize was ascribed to musicologist and pedagogue Tiia Järg for her outstanding activity as a researcher of Estonian classical music, pedagogue and introducer of Estonian music history to the wider public. Ceremonial handing of the prize will take place on March 22 at 4 pm at Estonian Theatre and Music Museum. In addition to monetary prize and a diploma, the award includes a walking stick, handmade of pine tree by Heino Eller himself.

Tiia Järg has graduated from the Tallinn Music School (1965), Tallinn State Conservatory (1972) and Moscow Conservatory (1976). She has worked as the headmaster of the Kärdla Children’s Music School, music history teacher of the Tallinn School No 21 and Tallinn Music High School and researcher of the Estonian Music and Theatre Museum. Since 1976, Tiia Järg is the pedagogue (since 1994, associate professor) of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Among her students are musicologists Kaja Irjas, Evi Arujärv and Anu Kõlar. Järg has mainly examined the work of Estonian composers, also the genre of wind quintet and the problems of musical idiom. In addition, she has written articles which have been published in periodicals and she is the author of several radio programs.

The Heino Eller Music Prize is awarded by the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum as a curator of composer’s heritage and owner of his copyright. Last year, Heino Eller Music Awards were given to composer Tauno Aints and compiling team of album „Heino Eller in modo mixolydio” (Reet Remmel, Mart Humal and Rein Seppius).
