Mirjam Tally's new work premiered in Sweden

On April 24 at 3 pm, Mirjam Tally’s Call Love to Mind for chamber choir a cappella will be premiered in the Large Hall of the Stockholm Concert House, the work will be performed by the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, conducted by young Slovenian conductor Martina Batic (born 1978), who in 2006 was awarded the Eric Ericson prize. In addition to Tally’s work, also music by Mauricio Kagel, and works by two Swedish composers – Hans Gefors and Anders Nilsson will be performed in the concert.

Mirjam Tally’s Call Love to Mind is composed in 2009 and based on text by Estonian poet Kristiina Ehin (English translation by Ilmar Lehtpere). The work is one of the first of her Swedish commisions. Additionally, in November 2009, Spring (Hommage à Joseph Haydn) for percussion, solo violin and strings was first performed, and in February 2010, Winter Island for violin, viola and cello was premiered in Stockholm. The piece was commissioned by the Swedish Radio.


Mirjam Tally was born in 1976 in Tallinn, she has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as student of Lepo Sumera and during her composition studies she also took lessons on electronic music with Rauno Remme. In 2003 she received her Master of Music at the Estonian Academy of Music. Over the period 1998-2004 Tally worked as freelance presenter at Klassikaraadio, and 2003–2006 as editor at the magazine "Muusika".
Since 2006, Mirjam Tally lives on the island of Gotland in Sweden, where she in addition to music writing also works at the Visby International Centre for Composers. In 2008, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music ascribed Mirjam Tally the prestigious prize of Little Christ Johnson Prize for her orchestra piece Turbulence (2006).
