Paavo Järvi won the Edison Music Award

Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi won the Edison Music Award, named for the inventor of the phonograph, is the oldest and most prestigious Dutch music prize, presented since 1960. This year, the Classical music Awards were given in 14 categories. International jury, consisted of Stef Collignon (chairman), Henk van der Meulen, Irene Witmer, Annemarie Goedvolk, Tonko Dop and Henk Smit, selected the winners out of 229 nominees.

Paavo Järvi was awarded in the category of instrumental concertos with young violinist Janine Jansen for their recordings of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto (with Kammerphilharmonie Bremen) and Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto (with London Symphony orchestra).

The 2010 Edison Awards Gala will be held on June 18 at Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen.
