IX Estonian Composers’ Festival

From June 3 to 6, Estonian Composers’ Festival will take place for the ninth time in Tartu. Four festival concerts held at Tartu St. John’s Church present Estonian new chamber and orchestral music, including four premieres. Composer of the festival is Mirjam Tally.

Opening concert of the festival will take place on June 3 at 7 pm, where Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and soloists Monika Mattiesen (flute), Linda Vood (flute), Tarmo Johannes (flute), Mari Targo (violin) and Kristi Mühling (kannel) under the guidance of Risto Joost will perform works by Tõnu Kõrvits, Tatjana Kozlova, Mart Siimer (world premiere) and Mirjam Tally (world premiere).

On June 4 at 12 pm, the workshop of Mirjam Tally’s music will be arranged. At 7 pm, Kristi Mühling (kannel), Jaak Lutsoja (accordion), Ursula Chillaud (saxophone) and Anto Õnnis (percussion) will perform Tally’s works at the composer’s recital (including world premiere of Shadows of the Moon).

On June 5 at 7 pm, concert of the Ensemble U: will take place. The program consists of music by Tatjana Kozlova, Ülo Krigul, Mirjam Tally (world premiere) and Kimmo Kuitunen.

Final concert of the festival will be held on June 6 at 7 pm, where works by Mari Vihmand, Mirjam Tally, Galina Grigorjeva, Manfred Stahnke, Nicolaus A. Huber and Helmuth Müller-Hornbach will be performed by Tartu New Music Ensemble (Tõnu Kalm – clarinet, Kadri Sepalaan – violin, Lauri Sõõro – cello, Kadri-Ann Sumera – piano).

Artistic director of the Estonian Composers’ Festival is Monika Mattiesen, festival is organised by NPO Tartu St. John’s Church Culture Project.
