Estonian National Opera’s guest performances in Hungary

 

On June 11 and 12, Estonian National Opera will give two guest performances at the international opera festival Bartók + Európa 2010. It is a cultural event held every summer in Miskolc. In addition to Estonian National Opera and the local opera theatres, also opera theatres from Czech and Bulgaria will participate.

On June 11, Estonian National Opera will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata (directed by Neeme Kuningas) at the National Theatre of Miskolc summer theatre, the main venue of the festival. Soprano Aile Asszonyi will make her debut as Violetta, the other roles will be sung by Mart Madiste, Jassi Zahharov, Helen Lokuta, Juuli Lill, Andres Köster and others, conducted by Jüri Alperten.

On June 12, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Wallenberg (2001, directed by Dmitri Bertman and Neeme Kuningas) will be performed at the summer thetare. The titel role will be sung by baritone Rauno Elp, Eichmann by bass Priit Volmer, conducted by Risto Joost. Also Estonian National Opera Chorus and Symphony Orchestra will particiapte in both productions.

Miskolc International Opera Festival, held since 2001, takes place from June 9 to12 for the 10th time. Festival is also called Bartók + ... Opera Festival, because each year the festival focuses on the works of Bartók plus another composer or composers. The festival offers 65 different events, including ballet performances, concerts, films and lectures by singers, musicians and dancers from the 27 countries.
