International Summer University for Piano in Pärnu 2010

 

From August 1 to 10, International Summer University for Piano will take place at Pärnu Town Hall, where the well-known pianist and piano pedagogue Arbo Valdma will hold his summer master courses for the ninth time. 27 participants from Estonia, Austria, Norway, Slovenia, Germany, France, China, Malaysia and Lithuania will take part in the courses.

The participants will perform at four studio concerts in Pärnu Town Hall and in Mahedik café. In cooperation with Neeme Järvi International Master Class for conductors and International Summer University for Piano, the concert entitled Haydn & Mozart will be held at Pärnu Concert Hall, where the Chamber Orchestra of Estonian National Youth Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by the participants of the Neeme Järvi Summer Academy. Soloists will be 12-year-old young talented pianist Tengku Ahmad Irfan (Malaysia) and cellist Marius Järvi.

On August 10, the closing concert of the International Summer University for Piano will take place at Pärnu Concert Hall. Conductor Jüri Alperten ja Pärnu City Orchestra will feature pianists Natasha Veljkovic (Austria) and Zhang Qian (China) among other participants. The program consists of music by Frédéric Chopin and Carl Maria von Weber.

Pianist Arbo Valdma graduated from Tallinn State Conservatoire with Bruno Lukk in 1966 and improved his skills at the postgraduate level at Moscow Conservatoire. He has gained several award-winning prizes at the piano competitions and has given solo concerts throughout Europe and Australia. Since 1993, Valdma has lived in Germany where he works as a piano professor at the Cologne University of Music. He has given master courses in Europe, Canada, USA, Russia and elsewhere. Piano school in Pärnu was held for the first time in summer 2003, the first winter courses took place in 2006.
