Kaljuste, Pärt and Tormis at Baltic Sea Festival

From August 23 to September 2, classical music festival of Baltic Sea area will take place in Stockholm. The eighth festival focusing on music and environment is organised by Swedish Radio, concerts will take place at the famous Berwald Concert Hall – home of Swedish Radio Orchestra and Choir. World-famous musicians and collectives will perform at the festival: conductors Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, Riccardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, pianist Stanisław Drzewiecki, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and others. Estonian music can be listened in two evenings.

On August 30 at 7.30 pm, concert Estonian Choir Contrasts will take place in Stockholm Gustav Vasa Church, where Stockholm Sinfonietta and Latvian Radio Choir under the baton of Tõnu Kaljuste will perform Reminiscentia by Veljo Tormis and Berliner Messe and Adam’s Lament (first performance in Sweden) by Arvo Pärt. Additionally, Dona nobis pacem by Swedish composer Catharina Palmér (b. 1963) will receive it’s world premiere.

On August 31, Latvian Radio Choir (conductor Sigvards Kļava) will give a concert in Berwald Concert Hall, where the program includes beside Latvian music also Tormis’s Latvian Bourdon Songs and Pärt’s Which Was the Son of....

Both concerts may be listened live from Swedish radio P2.

During the festival, an exhibition of the life and work of Veljo Tormis, Arvo Pärt and Eino Tamberg can be seen in Berwald Concert Hall.
