Lapland Chamber Orchestra plays Eller and Tubin

This week, Lapland Chamber Orchestra gives two concerts entitled Finland and Estonia – joining forces in Lapland. Estonian music is represented with two works for string orchestra: Eduard Tubin’s Music for Strings (1963) and Heino Eller’s Sinfonietta in G minor (1967). Besides music by Finnish jazz composer Outi Tarkiainen (1985) and Kirmo Lintinen (1967) will be performed. Concerts will take place on September 15 at 7 pm in Muonio Olos Polar Center and September 16 at 7 pm in Rovaniemi Church.

Lapland Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1972, originally bearing the name of Rovaniemi Orchestra and Rovaniemi City Orchestra, its artistic director and conductor since 1996 is John Storgårds. The most northern professional orchestra in EU with its 17 players has given often Finnish first performances of works by composers all over the world of all eras, also world premieres by leading contemporary composers.
