Concert “Tabula rasa – 33 years later”

On September 16 at 7 pm, concert Tabula rasa – 33 Years Later will take place in Tallinn St. John’s Church, where Arvo Pärt’s Tabula rasa (1977) for two violins, prepared piano and string orchestra will be performed. Tabula rasa is written in idiosyncratic tintinnabuli style that first manifested in piano piece For Alina (1976). In 1977, Pärt created many other pieces that are popular till now: Fratres, Summa, Arbos, Variations for the Healing of Arinushka, Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten, De profundis, Missa syllabica, Sarah Was Ninety Years Old.

The first performance of Tabula rasa took place on September 30 in 1977 in assembly hall of Tallinn Technical University, piece was performed by Gidon Kremer (violin), Tatyana Grindenko (violin), Alfred Schnittke (piano) and Theatre Estonia Chamber Orchestra under the guidance of Eri Klas. As the remarkable event, the piece will be performed in Thursday basicly by the same musicians – Tatyana Grindenko (violin), Gidon Kremer (violin), Reinut Tepp (piano), chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica and conductor Eri Klas. In addition, the program consists also Alfred Schnittke’s Concerto Grosso No. 1 (1977) and Giya Kancheli’s Ex contrario (2006).

Concert is organised by Tallinn Philharmonic Society.
