Ensemble U: was founded on the initiative of Taavi Kerikmäe and Tarmo Johannes in 2002. Currently the ensemble is staffed by Tarmo Johannes (flute), Helena Tuuling (clarinet), Merje Roomere (violin), Levi-Danel Mägila (cello), Vambola Krigul (percussion) and Taavi Kerikmäe (piano). Ensemble’s repertoire consists both of contemporary classics and experimental and improvisational compositions. Several works have written especially for U: by Toivo Tulev, Mari Vihmand, Tatjana Kozlova, Märt-Matis Lill, Tauno Aints, Helena Tulve, Andres Lõo, Roméo Monteiro (France), Antti Auvinen and Kimmo Kuitunen (Finland).
