The new double-CD of Estonian pianist Heljo Sepp

 

Estonian Public Broadcasting in cooperation with Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre has recently released the new double-CD „Performing Heljo Sepp“ of Estonian pianist Heljo Sepp. The double-CD presents mostly piano music by Heino Eller, but also works by Mart Saar, Artur Kapp and Johannes Brahms can be found. The recordings date from 1951–2004.

The presentation concert of the CDs and meeting with Heljo Sepp will take place on November 16 at 4 pm at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

The program consists of Heino Eller’s "Evening Song" and "Musical Moment" performed by Urmas Vulp (violin) and Marje Lohuaru (piano) and the first movement of Johannes Brahms’s Piano Quintet in f minor, Op. 34 performed by Mikk Murdvee (violin), Mari-Katrina Suss (violin), Anne Ilves (viola), Henry-David Varema (cello) and Peep Lassmann (piano). The presentation will be hosted by musicologist Tiia Järg.

Pianist and pedagogue Heljo Sepp (15.10.1922) studied piano in Valga Children Music School and took private lessons from Anna Eller. After winning the British Music Council scholarship award at the international piano competition for young pianists in London in 1938, she could study piano in London Royal Music Academy with Vivian Langerish. After the Second World War, Sepp graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory in 1947 with Bruno Lukk and improved her skills at postgraduate level at the Moscow Conservatory under the supervision of Heinrich Neuhaus. Heljo Sepp has worked as piano teacher at the Tallinn Music School and Estonian Academy of Music. Among her students there are Lilian Semper, Mart Humal, Peep Lassmann, Marje Lohuaru, Nina Maiorova and others. Sepp has performed in numerous concerts both in Estonia and abroad (the Great Britain, Sweden, Czechoslovak), introduced the piano works by Heino Eller and recorded music for Estonian Radio and several compilation discs.
