New concert series „Christmas Air“ will feature Helen Lokuta

The State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert in cooperation with Estonian Evangelical Lutheral Church will start the new Advent and Christmas time concert series Christmas Air at the end of November. The aim of the concerts is to value Estonian churches and performers of academic music. Christmas Air presents acknowledged singers and instrumentalists. The repertoire consists of arias from oratorios and cantatas as well as loved Christmas carols and instrumental pieces. The concerts will take place in every Advent Saturday at Tallinn St. John’s and St. Nicholas’s Church at 6 pm.


Helen Lokuta

The first concert will feature mezzo soprano Helen Lokuta, organist Ulla Krigul and cellist Marius Järvi. The program includes arias from cantatas and Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach and Christmas music. The concerts will be held on November 27 at Tallinn St. John’s Church and November 28 at Jõhvi St. Michael’s Church.

Helen Lokuta has studied singing at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Pille Lill, Prof. Tamara Novitshenko and Prof. Jaakko Ryhänen. She has imporved her skills at Karlsruhe Higher Music School and Opera School (in Maria Venuti’s singing class) and participated in many masterclasses.

Since 2006, Lokuta is a soloist at the Estonian National Opera. She has also sung roles in the opera houses of Germany and Latvia and since 2004, participated in Tõnu Kaljuste’s project theatre Nargen Opera. Lokuta has also peformed as a soloist in large-scale vocal works and given recitals.

Next concerts will present Oliver Kuusik with Piret Aidulo and Indrek Vau, Uku Joller with Toomas Trass and Anne Ilves and Iris Oja with Ene Nael and Aleksander Hännikäinen.
