Concert series „Christmas Air“ will feature Oliver Kuusik

The next concert in the series Christmas Air will feature tenor Olver Kuusik, organist Piret Aidulo and trumpetist Indrek Vau. The program consists of music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Caesar Franck and Adolphe Adam. The concert will take place on December 4 at 6 pm at St. John’s Church in Tallinn.

The new Advent and Christmas time concert series Christmas Air, organized by the State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert in cooperation with Estonian Evangelical Lutheral Church, started at the end of November. The aim of the concerts is to value Estonian churches and performers of academic music. Christmas Air presents acknowledged singers and instrumentalists. The repertoire consists of arias from oratorios and cantatas as well as loved Christmas carols and instrumental pieces. The concerts will take place in every Advent Saturday at Tallinn St. John’s and St. Nicholas’s Church at 6 pm.


Oliver Kuusik

Oliver Kuusik (1980) graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music with Pille Lill and Professor Virgilius Noreika. He received his Master’s degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (London), where he studied with Maestro Rudolf Piernay. In 2009, Oliver Kuusik was chosen as a laureate of the international competition of opera singers Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques (Canada). In 2008, he received the annual Estonian Theatre Award for his singing of Peter Quint and Prologue in Britten’s Turn of the Screw.
Oliver Kuusik has won the Third Prize at the 5th Klaudia Taev International Competition for Young Opera Singers and the Kremling’s special prize for the best interpretation of German Song, the First Prize at the Hendrik Krumm Competition, the First Prize at the Competition Young Singer and the Marje and Kuldar Sink Young Musician Prize.

Since 2008, he is the soloist of the Estonian National Opera. He has also given recitals and performed as a soloist in large-scale vocal works. The concert tours have taken him to Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Germany, France, Canada, U.S.A and England.

Next concerts will present Uku Joller with Toomas Trass and Anne Ilves and Iris Oja with Ene Nael and Aleksander Hännikäinen.
