Debut of Mati Turi at the Finnish National Opera

On December 8 at 7 pm, tenor Mati Turi will make his stage debut at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki as Paul in Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s opera

. The other roles will be sung by Camilla Nylund, Markus Eiche, Sari Nordqvist, Kirsti Valve, Marjukka Tepponen, Essi Luttinen, Antti Nieminen, Per Håkan Precht and Juha Riihimäki. The opera is directed by Kasper Holten and will be conducted by Mikko Franck, the music director of the Finnish National Opera. The next performance will be held on December 11.

In November, Mati Turi sung Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von dem Erde with Lapi Chamber Orchestra under the guidance of Leif Segerstam in Rovaniemi and appeared in concert performance of Einojuhani Rautavaara’s opera The Mine in Tampere.

 


Mati Turi

Mati Turi graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory in choral conducting and has studied singing with Prof Jaakko Ryhänen. In 1992–2004, Turi sang in the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and since 2005, works as a freelance musician. As a soloist, Turi has collaborated with many outstanding orchestras, conductors and musicians in Estonia as well as abroad. Being one of the leading oratorio singer in Estonia, his repertoire includes a lot of large-scale works from Baroque era to contemporary music. Recent years, the opera roles have emerged in Turi’s musical career – he has cooperated with Nargen Opera and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, Estonian National Opera and since 2009, with Kokkola Opera in Finland. He has performed in several festivals both in Estonia and abroad.
