International Summer University for Piano in Pärnu

From August 1 to 10, International Summer University for Piano will take place at Pärnu Town Hall, where the well-known pianist and piano pedagogue Arbo Valdma will hold his summer master courses for the eighth time. 20 participants from Estonia, Norway, Serbia, Slovenia, Austria and Germany will take part in the courses.

The participants will perform at studio concerts in Pärnu Town Hall – on August 4, the opening concert of the courses will be held, August 5, Haydn piano concertos will be performed with String Quartet of Pärnu City Orchestra and August 6, the classical studio concert will be organized. All concerts will start at 8 pm. In addition, participants will be heard also on August 4 and 5 at 2 pm at Port Artur 2 café.

On August 9 at 8 pm, the closing concert of the International Summer University for Piano will take place at Pärnu Concert Hall. The best pianists and Pärnu City Orchestra with Jüri Alperten conducting will perform Robert Schumann’s and Fryderyk Chopin’s piano concertos.

Pianist Arbo Valdma graduated from Tallinn State Conservatoire with Bruno Lukk in 1966 and improved his skills at the postgraduate level at Moscow Conservatoire. He has gained several award-winning prizes at the piano competitions and has given solo concerts throughout Europe and Australia. Since 1993, Valdma has lived in Germany where he works as a piano professor at the Cologne University of Music. He has given master courses in Europe, Canada, USA, Russia and elsewhere. Piano school in Pärnu was held for the first time in summer 2003, the first winter courses took place in 2006.

International Summer University for Piano is organized by Pärnu Concert Bureau in cooperation with Pärnu Philharmonic.
