Estonian musicians will perform in Riga

Within the framework of the 12th International Sacred Music Festival in Riga (from August 19 to September 3), Estonian musicians will give two concerts. At the opening concert of the festival on August 19 at Riga St. Peter’s Church, Peeter Vähi’s Supreme Silence (1997) for soloist, male choir and English handbell ensemble and Also sprach Nietzche (2004) for soloists, male choir, percussion and live-electronics will receive their Latvian premieres.

Works will be performed by Helen Lokuta (mezzo soprano), Estonian National Male Choir and Arsis Handbell Ensemble conducted by Risto Joost.

On August 22, Russian Requiem (2007) by Jewish composer Lera Auerbach will be performed at Riga Dome Cathedral. Besides Nikita Storoyev (bass, Russia) and the State Choir Latvija, also soloists Heldur-Harry Põlda (boy-soprano), Annely Peebo (mezzo soprano), Estonian National Opera Boys’ Choir and Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of Tõnu Kaljuste will participate in the Baltic premiere performance of the large-scale work with the presence of the composer. The same program can be heard in Estonia on August 23, within the Nargen Festival.
