5th Tallinn Chamber Music Festival

Tallinn Chamber Music festival held from August 26 to 30 presents, 9 concert in Tallinn Town Hall, St. Michael’s Swedish Church and The House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads. Estonian top interpreters perform world classic of chamber music and large-scale vocal works. The main attention is on Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdi’s music to celebrate the 200th anniversary of his birth.

The festival opening concert is on August 26 at 6 pm in Tallinn Town Hall where Sigrid Kuulmann (violin), Madis Kari (clarinet) and Marko Martin (piano) will perform music by Francis Poulenc, Miklós Rózsa, Alexander Skrjabin, Sergei Prokofjev and Eugène Ysaÿe. On the same evening at 8 pm, Chamber Orchestra of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with soloists Mari Tampere (violin) and Peeter Paemurru (cello) will perform in St. Michael’s Swedish Church. Their program consists of music by Joseph Haydn, Edvard Grieg and Mendelssohn.

On August 27 at 6 pm, Oksana Sinkova (flute), Lea Leiten (piano) and Cello Quartet C-Jam (Villu Vihermäe, Margus Uus, Andreas Lend and Pärt Tarvas) will perform in Tallinn Town Hall. Their program consists of chamber music by Albert Franz Doppler, George Enescu, Camille Saint-Saëns, Pablo de Sarasate, David Popper and Richard Wagner. At 8 pm concert with Johann Sebastian Bach’s, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s, Franz Schubert’s and Arvo Pärt’s music will be held in St. Michael’s Swedish Church performed by Tiia Tenno (organ) and String Quartet Noobel Nelik: Arvo Leibur (violin), Urmas Roomere (violin), Rain Vilu (viola) and Tõnu Jõesaar (cello).

On August 28 at 6 pm, Ulla Krigul (organ) will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s and Mendelssohn’s works. String Trio: Kristina Kriit (violin), Toomas Nestor (viola), Levi-Danel Mägila (cello) will play Ludwig van Beethoven’s music in St. Michael’s Swedish Church.

The Gala Concert Viva Jubilee! will celebrate Ivari Ilja’s 50th, Henry-David Varema’s 40th and Virgo Veldi’s 40th anniversary on August 28 at 8 pm at the House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads, Tallinn. Also three awards will be given out in the gala concert: Marje and Kuldar Sink’s award Young Singer, Pille Lill Music Fund Patron Lord Carlisle award Young Musician and Vendor Estonia award Young Conductor.

On August 29 at 6 pm, Andreas Lend (cello), Maarit Saarmäe (piano) and Piano Duo Kai Ratassepp-Mati Mikalai will perform in Tallinn Town Hall. The concert program consists of music by Sergei Rachmaninov, Georges Bizet’ and Mendelssohn. On the same evening the Oratorio Gala will be held in St. Michael’s Swedish Church, where Kädy Plaas (soprano), Helen Lokuta (mezzo soprano), Oliver Kuusik (tenor), Atlan Karp (baritone), Priit Volmer (bass) and Ulla Krigul (organ) will perform music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Mendelssohn.

The last evening of the festival is filled with music by Bohuslav Matěj Černohorský, Johann Baptist Vanhal, Jan Křtitel Kuchař, Johann Pachelbel, Georg Muffat, Diderich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach and Pjotr Tchaikovsky. This concert is held at 6 pm in St. Michael’s Swedish Church with Aleš Bárta (organ, Czech Republic), Pille Lill (soprano) and Marje Lohuaru (piano).

Festival is organized by The PL EST Management in cooperation with Tallinn City Government, Estonian Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, artistic director is Pille Lill.
