Pärnu Philharmonic opens its season with symphony concert

On October 8, the Concert Insitute Pärnu Philharmonic will open its new season with symphony concert at Pärnu Concert Hall at 7 pm.

Besides the music by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Joseph Haydn, Pärnu City Orchestra under the guidence of its chief conductor Jüri Alperten will also perform pieces by Estonian composers – Tõnu Kõrvits’s Elegies of Thule (2007) for string orchestra and ...in these gardens (2004) for alto saxophone and string orchestra (soloist Virgo Veldi) and Raimo Kangro’s Circulus quadratus, Op. 52 (1994) for string orchestra.

Pärnu City Orchestra (founded in 1994) gives over 40 symphony concerts per season. The orchestra has collaborated with many outstanding conductors (e.g. Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Kristjan Järvi, Jorma Panula, Eri Klas, Olari Elts, Paul Mägi, Vello Pähn, Arvo Volmer, Erki Pehk, György Selmeczi) and performers (e.g. Sarah Chang, Leila Josefowich, Liana Issakadze, Sergei Stadler, Xiang Gao, Chitose Okashiro, Kalle Randalu, Ivari Ilja, Wilhelm Schwaiger, Roberto Loretti). Pärnu City Orchestra appears frequently in Estonian music festivals and cooperates with many concert institutes. Since 1998, Jüri Alperten holds the position of chief conductor at the orchestra.
