Vox Clamantis

Ensemble Vox Clamantis was founded in 1996 by its artistic leader Jaan-Eik Tulve and is devoted to Gregorian chant, early polyphony and contemporary vocal music. Several Estonian composers (Toivo Tulev, Helena Tulve, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Andres Uibo, Tõnis Kaumann) have written new pieces for Vox Clamantis.

Continuous collaboration with different musicians has given a birth to improvisational programmes based on jazz music with Weekend Guitar Trio, saxophonist Villu Veski, American percussionist Brian Melvin. Ensemble has given concerts also with electro-acustical ensemble Cyberstudio and early music consort Hortus Musicus.

Early music consort Hortus Musicus was founded in 1972 by its artistic leader violinist Andres Mustonen and is the oldest continuously working ensemble in its field in Eastern Europe. For more than 30 years, Hortus Musicus have investigated and presented in their programs European music from the 8th to 20th centuries.

Hortus Musicus

Special attention is paid to the contemporary new pieces written for Hortus Musicus. Ensemble has given concerts in most European countries, the USA, Japan, Israel and the territory of the former Soviet Union and performed at most major early music festivals as well. Record companies Erdenklang, Musica Svecia, Forte, Finlandia Records and others have released several CD-s with different programs.
