Fiesta de la Guitarra from October 10 to November 19


From October 10 to November 19, VIII International Guitar Days Festival Fiesta de la Guitarra takes place over the country. In eighteen concerts of the festival, Estonian guitar students as well as already well-known Estonian guitarists will step up, among the guest performers are top interpreters such as Jesper Sivebæk (Denmark), Miguel Angel Jiménez (Spain), Heiki Mätlik (Estonia) and Anastasia Bredis (Russia), as well as young guitarists from Latvia, Lithuania, Italy and China.
The center towns of the festival are Otepää and Tartu, many of the major concerts take place in Tallinn, Pärnu, Valga and Jõhvi. The concert of Estonian guitar music is scheduled to November 4 at 6 pm in Glass Hall of the Tallinn Song Festival grounds, works by Lauri Jõeleht, Ester Mägi, Tõnu Kõrvits and others will be performed. Festival ends with a Gala concert, dedicated to Cuban guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer’s 70th birthday, on November 19 at 6 pm in chamber hall of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

In addition to the concert program, from October 29 to 31, the year conference of Estonian Guitar Society is held in Otepää. Lectures and masterclasses are given by recognized guitarists and teachers, also rehearsals of guitar orchestra will take place. In October and November, leading and well-known European guitar professors Jesper Sivebæk, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Sven Lundestad will carry out master classes at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
Several events of the festival take place in cooperation with the Estonian State Concert Agency, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, and the Danish Cultural Institute.

The originator of the Guitar Festival was guitarist and pedagogue Kuldar Kudu.
