Premiere of new piece by Mirjam Tally in Sweden

On November 18, Mirjam Tally’s new piece Spring (Hommage à Joseph Haydn) for percussion, solo violin and strings will be premiered at the concert entitled Haydn Remixed in Sweden. Spring is commissioned by Swedish Association for Contemporary Music and Sound Art C-Y Contemporary and will be performed by Malmö Chamber Orchestra under the guidance of Alexander Einarsson at Palladium Concert Hall, Malmö at 7.30 pm. Concert is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Jopseph Haydn’s death and the program consists of different remixes of the symphonies by Haydn. Besides Tally’s new work, also music by Peter Bjuhir, Anna Eriksson, Daniel Hjorth and Stefan Klaverdal will be performed.

Sound is central in Mirjam Tally’s (b. 1976) creations. Her music brims with playful contrasts – humorous, dramatic and poetic uses of sound are mixed there. So far she has mainly written chamber and electronic music in which acoustic and electronic sounds often interweave. Sometimes she uses Nordic or exotic folk instruments (Estonian zither kannel, didgeridoo, tanpura, accordion and others) and treats folkloric sound material with a modernist open mind. In Tally’s works Estonian poetry (Hasso Krull, Elo Viiding, Indrek Hirv) holds an important position. Since the autumn of 2006, Mirjam Tally lives and works in Visby on the island of Gotland, Sweden.
