Ensemble U: in Helsinki

On November 21 at 7 pm, ensemble U: will perform at The Sibelius Academy, Finland. The concert is organized by Finnish music organization RY Korvat Auki and the evening consists of music by Finnish and Estonian composers such as Antti Auvinen, Jarkko Harikainen, Olli Virtaperko, Ülo Krigul, Tatjana Kozlova and Märt-Matis Lill.
Members of Ensemble U: are Taavi Kerikmäe (piano), Levi-Danel Mägila (cello), Tarmo Johanner (flute), Merje Roomere (violin), Helena Tuuling (clarinet) and Vambola Krigul (percussion).

Ensemble U: was founded in 2002 by Tarmo Johannes and Taavi Kerikmäe. The members of the ensemble are outstanding young musicians. The first full concert took place in October 2003 at the International Contemporary Music Festival NYYD 2003 in Tallinn. Since then U: has been performing in numerous festivals of contemporary music in Estonia and abroad. Next to masterworks of the present day’s most noted composers, Ensemble U: pays a lot of attention to performing experimental and improvisational music. The ensemble works actively to broaden the idea of different types of scores as sources of music (graphical scores, video, text etc.). The ensemble has also been responsible for commissioning new music from Estonian and foreign composers: Toivo Tulev, Mari Vihmand, Tatjana Kozlova, Märt-Matis Lill, Tauno Aints and Andres Lõo (Estonia), Roméo Monteiro (France), Antti Auvinen, Kimmo Kuitunen (Finland).
