Tõnu Kõrvits’s music for film will be premiered in France

On November 21, Tõnu Kõrvits’s film music for silent feature film La Passion selon Jeanne d’Arc, directed by Danish film director Carl Theodor Dreyer in 1928, will be premiered in France. Concert/film screening will take place in Théâtre du Préau in Vire at 8.30 pm within the framework of the festival Les Boreales. Music will be performed by Ensemble de Basse-Normandie under the guidance of Dominique Debart.

Dreyer is regarded by many critics and filmmakers as one of the greatest directors in cinema, La Passion selon Jeanne d’Arc was his first classical film.

Although Dreyer intended the film to be watched in complete silence with no musical accompaniment, several scores have been composed later. In addition to Kõrvits, also Lithuanian composer Bronius Kutavičius has written music for that film in 2009.

Ensemble de Basse-Normandie will perform Kõrvits’s film music also on November 27 at 8.30 pm at Salle Armontel, Vimotiers and November 29 at 5 pm at Théâtre de Caen.
