Pianist Mihkel Poll’s new CD and concerts with the Nordic Symphony Orchestra

On November 23 and 24, pianist Mihkel Poll will perform with the Nordic Symphony Orchestra and conductor Anu Tali. The program consists of Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.
The concerts entitled Meeting Place – Estonia will take place on November 23 at Vanemuine Concert Hall, Tartu and on November 24 at Estonia Concert Hall, Tallinn.

On November 22, Mihkel Poll presented his first solo CD “20th century piano” (Ondine). The recording includes music from the period between 1908 and 2008 – Gaspard de la nuit by Maurice Ravel, Piano Sonata No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich, two nocturnes, Op. 15 by Alexander Mosolov, three etudes by György Ligeti and Three songs for Piano by Estonian composer Helena Tulve. Three songs for Piano were written last year for the 7th Estonian Competition for Pianists as the obligatory pieces. They are inspired by the poems of Richard Brautigan and Tõnu Õnnepalu and the last piece is dedicated to Nora and Arvo Pärt.
