Tallinn String Quartet 25


 

In December, Tallinn String Quartet – Urmas Vulp (violin), Olga Voronova (violin), Toomas Nestor (viola) and Levi-Danel Mägila (cello) – will celebrate its 25th anniversary with two concerts where pianist Ivari Ilja will also perform. The program consists of Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in C flat minor, Op. 131 and Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E flat major, Op. 44. The concerts are organized in the concert series Violino Bis! and will take place on December 2 at 7 pm in the chamber hall of Jõhvi Concert House and December 12 at 6 pm in Tallinn Town Hall.

Tallinn String Quartet was established in 1984 and it has become the only continuously working chamber group with such a long career in Estonian music life.
Tallinn String Quartet has performed in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Canada and Israel. They have also participated in different international music festivals such as Sound Pressure in Toronto, Saison Balte in Paris, Chamber Music Festival of Södertälje, contemporary music festival Hamburger Begegnungen and national festivals here in Estonia (NYYD, David Oistrakh Festival, Mustjala Music Festival etc).
The wide repertoire of Tallinn String Quartet includes the masterpieces of world’s string quartet literature as well as contemporary music and works by Estonian authors. Tallinn String Quartet has made several CDs with Estonian music and recorded for Estonian Public Broadcasting.
Tallinn String Quartet is the Laureate of Heino Eller Music Award (2003).
