Estonian jazz groups performed in Germany to celebrate Estonian 90th anniversary

In Germany the anniversary program of Estonian Republic e such as estonia continues: Estonian jazz groups Weekend Guitar Trio (Mart Soo, Robert Jürjendal, Tõnis Leemets), Villu Veski & Tiit Kalluste 5tet (Villu Veski, Tiit Kalluste, Raimonds Macats, Abdissa Assefa, Taavo Remmel) and Vind Project (Meelis Vind, Tatjana Lepnurm) had two performances. The concerts took place on Saturday April 5th in Karlsruhe Jazz Club and on Sunday April 6th in Stuttgart Theatre House.

e such as estonia that locates in Baden-Wuerttemberg forms one part of the bigger concept called Essentia Baltica 2008 that lets Baltic states to introduce its culture in Germany on their 90th anniversary year. The program includes more Estonian music, for example concerts titled Musik aus Klostern und Hütten by vocal ensemble Heinavanker on May 8th at Ulm Martin-Luther-Church and May 9th at Stuttgart Stiftskirche, also Estonian National Male Choir and the band called Metsatöll performing the famed new version of Curse upon Iron by Veljo Tormis. The festival includes also the exhibition about Arvo Pärt. Estonian jazz music should not be entirely unfamiliar to German audience either: in 2007 Estonian-origined jazz pianist Kristjan Randalu was recognized as the best jazz artist.
