On May 21 at 6 pm, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s opera “Wallenberg” DVD will be presented in Estonian National Opera White Hall. On May 21 and 22 at 7 pm also next performances of the opera will take place. DVD was released by Estonian Record Productions, opera was recorded by Estonian Public Broadcasting.
Tüür’s opera “Wallenberg” was premiered in Dortmund Opera in 2001. Opera based on libretto by German dramatist Lutz Hübner was first staged in Estonia in June 2007. The author of the idea of Estonian production is Dmitri Bertman – chief producer and artistic director of the Moscow Helikon Opera. Opera on theme of Holocaust tells of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg who saved tens of thousands of jews from German concentration camps during the Second World War.
In the roles on DVD are Jesper Taube (Wallenberg), Priit Volmer (Eichmann), Mati Turi (Wallenberg 2), Jassi Zahharov (German Officer), Väino Puura (Ronald Reagan), Teele Jõks, Andres Köster, Mart Laur, Mart Madiste, René Soom, Aare Saal, Helen Lokuta, Annaliisa Pillak, Juuli Lill, Riina Airenne, Aile Asszonyi, Urmas Põldma, Vladislav Horuženko, Villu Valdmaa, Aare Kodasma, Alar Haak, Vahur Agar. Conductors are Arvo Volmer and Risto Joost.
Erkki-Sven Tüür, Dmitri Bertman, Arvo Volmer, Neeme Kuningas and Ene-Liis Semper were awarded the state cultural prize 2007 for the production of opera “Wallenberg”. For the staging of opera „Wallenberg”, Dmitri Bertman was given also Annual Award of Estonian Theatre 2007 in the category of musical stagings.
